As a Pennsylvania Game Warden for more than three decades, Wasserman investigated thousands of game law violations and arrested many violent career poachers. But another big part of his job was in the public relations and education field where he penned a weekly newspaper column entitled It s a Wild Life. Hence, the title of this book, which contains twenty-six of his most notable stories selected from more than seven hundred published over a fifteen-year period. His sometimes humorous and sometimes emotional assortment of essays run the gamut from confrontations with poachers and game hogs to stories about animal survival, free roaming pets, captive wildlife, and unpredictable encounters with wild critters. But this book is not only about animals and nature, it s also about people and the attitudes and emotions that make a game warden s career so interesting. It s a book that expands one s sense of awareness about the complexities of the natural world surrounding us and helps the reader understand and appreciate its existence both with and without human interference.

Wasserman is a great storyteller. After reading about some of his accounts with poachers, it's surprising that he came through 32 years relatively unscathed. Even if you are not a hunter, the stories are interesting. I was greatly interested in the fact that game wardens in PA, in addition to serving as law officers, are required to serve as detectives, forensic specialists, and prosecutors. I'm looking forward to the next book.Product details

It a Wild Life Essays from a State Game Warden William Wasserman 9780971890732 Books Reviews
This is a book of essays about interactions between wild animals and people with a sprinkling of poacher vs. game warden stories. Wasserman’s essays are at times, quite humorous, while others tend to play on your emotions. I found his stories on animal survival, free roaming pets, captive wildlife, and encounters with poachers to be very interesting. This is a book that hunters, campers, birdwatchers and animals lovers of all kinds are sure to enjoy.
Followers of author Bill Wasserman's wild life tales and newcomers alike are in for a special treat with his newest addition to this collection entitled "It's A Wildlife". Wasserman delves into the back story of some familiar tales and enhances newer ones with in depth and vivid descriptions of the people and situations involved. This different direction makes for a highly readable edition. For Wasserman, this is a departure from previous books. Right from the get go the first story "The Outlaw and The Boy" grabs your attention immediately by the way it switches perspectives from the boy's point of view and then the outlaws and ultimately flows more like a story than the recounting of an incident. Also of particularly keen interest are three connected stories, "Beauford", "The Passing", and "The Return" which border on the supernatural and are very profound if not chilling nightmare like personal experiences of the author. This newest addition will not disappoint the reader.
Have read multiple books by Mr Wasserman. All are excellent reads. Will buy anything that has his name on it.
